I really want to get something for the summer just to give my hair a break from the daily manipulation that I put my hair through.
When wearing a protective style, you must keep your scalp oiled. Now I can't stand to have an oily scalp and/or oily hair. I've learned that a little oil can go a long way. The few times that I have had a protective style, I would put oil along the braid pattern and massage it in at least two times a week. When it came to washing my hair, I would usually wash my sew-in as if it were my own hair (well after I paid all that money it was considered my hair) with my usual shampoo and conditioner. I never kept braids or crochets in long enough for my hair to need washing but I've found a few products that will take care of my natural hair under any protective style. I wish I would have found them sooner because it will make washing and caring for my natural hair so much easier.
- Carol's Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey Clarifying Scalp Treatment - Love this stuff! Works well in-between washes and also would be a great asset to any protective style. It helps to purify and exfoliate the scalp and hair. It contains peppermint and tea tree oil which helps to stimulate the scalp and promote hair growth. It also leaves my scalp with the tingling feeling that I love.
- Carol's Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey Calming Tension Spray - This is a must have. This tension spray works wonders when your hair is pulled too tight. I've had to use it when I've rolled my hair too tight and instantly I can feel a difference. Some people think that in order for your hair to stay for a certain length of time it must be done tightly. This is so not true, but the Africans will still braid your hair tight as hell as well as some beauticians (licensed and unlicensed--well if they aren't licensed then they aren't beauticians--but ya'll know what I mean).
- GirlandHair Sulfate-Free Cleanser - I haven't used this yet, but I've read nothing but god reviews about it. This shampoo throughly cleanses your natural hair underneath hair extensions. Tea tree and neem oils are also added to help treat and prevent and itchy and flaky scalp. I'll do and update as soon as I use it. I have also read that customers have used this on their hair without extensions to braid and it still worked really well for them.
- GirlandHair Leave-In Conditioner - This leave-in conditioner is said to have 200% more conditioning ingredients than other conditioners. It also contains tea tree and neem oils as well as shea oils and cocoa butter to help penetrate and protect natural hair. I haven't used this product either but I will be sure to give an update soon.
- GirlandHair Restoring Hair Balm - This balm is designed for everyday usage. This oil blend is said to fortify and protect dry and damaged hair strands. It also contains ingredients to support healthy hair growth.
Check back later as I give you all the details of my straightened hair. Yes, I straightened my hair! 😮
