More Baby/Toddler Natural Hair Products

So on my last post I was supposed to stick to talking about hair but I ended up talking mostly about skin care for products that I use for my daughter.  I promise that I will stick to talking about hair.  As I mentioned before I was only using California Baby's Calendula Shampoo & Bodywash on my infant daughter's hair.  When she was about 9 or 10 months, I decided to try their Calendula Hair ConditionerCalming™Hair Detangler, and Calming™Jelly Mousse Natural Hair Gel.  I wanted to stick with this brand because it was all natural and it was what I was familiar.  Plus after that incident with the Aveeno, I wasn't taking any more risks.

Let me add in that I was so nervous about having a daughter.  Why?  Because I can't do my own damn hair so how am I supposed to do someone else's hair?!  The only experience I've had with another girl's hair was doing my dolls hair and that was like 20 years ago.  I can't braid or part straight.  Ya'll don't understand.  Before I became natural all I did was keep my hair wrapped or in a ponytail.  I can't lie I miss those days of having a wrap.  At night all I had to do was comb my hair into that beehive (that's what I called it) and tie my scarf on.  Then in the morning all I had to do was unwrap it, comb it down, and I was sexy for the day.  Going natural was on a different level for me.  I had to learn a few hairstyles because as we all know there is no wrapping this hair in its natural state.  Now I had a daughter with a head full of hair. It was cool while she was younger because I could comb it and put a head band on.  But as she started getting older, those packed down curls were turning into larger curls and it was almost becoming unmanageable.  One of my best friends, Ericka, told me that I would eventually learn and she was right.

Okay, back to the subject at hand.  Now the Calendula Hair Conditioner helped greatly with detangling because her hair had grown rather quickly.  I would use the Calming Hair Detangler on days we would go on outings.  I didn't really care for it because it would leave her hair really dry, even after I would apply the coconut and olive oil combo that I used.  Same thing with the Calming Jelly Mousse Natural Hair Gel.  So much like I had to do with myself, I had to start searching for products that would work for her hair.

The first products that I came across were It's A Curl for Babies by Curls.  These products are said to be specifically formulated for babies and also be gentle for their delicate skin.  So I decided to give the following products a try:
  • Peek-A-Boo - Tearless Baby Shampoo - I loved that this shampoo is tearless.  It made washing her hair so much easier.  I was a gentle cleanser but it cleansed her hair throughly.  It didn't strip her hair and it left it moisturized.
  • Patty Cake - Baby Curl Conditioner - I loved that this was made with certified organic aloe vera gel and certified organic jojoba oil, which are both great for sensitive skin and a sensitive scalp.  Now my daughter does not necessarily have sensitive skin; however, I am always cautious about what I use on her because a baby's skin is delicate
  • Itsy Bitsy Spirals - Baby Curl Moisturizer - Now this was my least favorite out of this product line.  This is also made with certified organic aloe leaf juice and jojoba oil.  I used it in combination with the leave-in cream on wet hair and it would leave my daughter's hair dry.  I tried using it alone on dry hair and it still had the same effect.
  • Ring Around the Curlies - Leave In Cream - With certified organic aloe leaf juice and jojoba oil, this product would leave her hair really soft.  It made it easy to detangle and kept her frizziness at bay.
So after using these products and having some success, I had to find a moisturizer for her hair.  Now by now you all know that I love Mielle Organics products but I was skeptical about using them on her hair before she turned one.  But soon as she turned one, I started using the Organic White Peony Ultra Moisturizing Leave-In ConditionerMint Almond Oil, and Avocado Moisturizing Hair Milk (in that order) after I washed and conditioned her hair and whenever I needed to style her hair for an outing.  That was the perfect combination for her hair and I actually still use these products for her hair often. Shortly after Mielle Organics came out with a new line specifically for children.  So of course I had to get that the day they released it.  I purchased the following products:

  • Sacha Inchi Cleansing Shampoo - The good thing about this product is that it contains aloe leaf juice, which is a major moisturizer for the hair.  I liked this shampoo because it didn't leave Ladybug's hair dry.  It left it feeling really soft and it throughly cleansed her hair.
  • Sacha Inchi Detangling Conditioner - This also contains aloe leaf juice; however, it kind of leaves her hair somewhat dry.  It's hard to really describe how her hair feels once I apply this.  Like one minute it's super wet and her curls are juicy then in the next minute it's kind of crunchy feeling.  I'm still on the fence with this product.  It does somewhat help with detangling though.
  • Sacha Inchi Curl Enhancing Cream - Ehhh, I'm not too sure how I feel about this one.  It leaves that damn white film on her hair, which if you've been following along this is something that I had a fit over with my hair.  I tried putting some Mint Almond Oil on her hair before applying this, then I tried it with just the detangling conditioner and still no luck.  If the white film isn't there then her hair is just dry.  It smells good, but I needed something more to keep her hair super moisturized.  In the mean time, I went back to using the Avocado Moisturizing Hair Milk.

Check back to find out what I currently use on Ladybug's hair and I must say that I am quite satisfied...that is until something new comes out that I have to try! 😊

**FYI - Anything that is underlined is an active link to the product that it's referring to.  I link the products to the website that I buy them from, but keep in mind Target, Walgreens, CVS, Sally's, Wal-Mart, and other places sell the products that I use.  Some of the products are only available on the brand's website though.
