More Products?!

As I mentioned in my first post, I kind of started this blog because I'm in between changes in my professional career due to being a stay at home mom and it gives me something to do; more like a sense of purpose.  I also wanted to do this because there are so many people out there that are going natural and they just don't know what in the hell to do.  Not knowing what to do and becoming frustrated just leads to going back to a relaxer or not taking the proper care of your hair and it just breaks off and looks plain bad.  I know there are other blogs out there way more interesting and informative than mine, but hopefully I can help at least one person along the way.  Newly naturals have to learn that their hair is NEVER going to be like someone else's.  I definitely had to learn this for myself.
I have people all the time tell me how nice my hair looks (I don't think it's that great but I'll post pics soon) and they feel like they can't get their hair to look like mine because they have "real negro" hair.  If only you all could see my face when people tell me that.  What in the hell is "real negro" hair?!  I have yet to find out because everyone has a different texture.  Once a person can get over the fact that their hair will not look like someone else's then they can begin to love their own hair and play around with products until they find out what really works for them.  Now enough with that rant.

I ended up having an unexpected c-section so I missed my appointment to get my hair braided before giving birth.  I truly see why expecting mothers get braids or some type of protective style at the end of their pregnancy.  Well since I didn't get my hair braided, I was just stuck with a fuzz ball in the top of my head for weeks.  New mothers all know you don't have time to worry about your own hair.  Plus I was breast feeding so I was cock-eyed as hell with sleep.  The last thing on my mind was my hair.  It didn't hit me until about 3 weeks after I had our daughter that I needed to do something with my hair. So I managed to wash and condition it. I swear my hair was screaming, "THANK YOU!!"  I twisted it and left it twisted for a few days until I had to go somewhere.  As those first few weeks went by I noticed that my edges were thinning badly.  So now I'm freaking out because I didn't want to be that person with no edges.

When I'm having major hair issues I call my aunt.  She's been a licensed beautician for over 30 years.  She's one of those old school beauticians.  The one that still does jheri curls, french rolls...ya'll know what I'm talking about.  I just can't believe people really still wear those styles.  Hell my dad still has a jheri curl (don't ya'll dare laugh).  He's had that since I was born. Ya'll he's had it so long that people really think it's his hair!  I be wanting to tell them, "Ya'll know damn well this is not his hair.  How is he the only one out of seven kids that has 'good hair'?  Better yet why don't I have 'good hair'?" Enough on that because I'm not about to entertain ya'll talking about my dad.

My aunt is old school but she's one of the few beauticians that really takes care of your natural hair.  So she told me about this company based out of Atlanta called NouriTress.  I went to their website and ordered the Stimulating Scalp ShampooPerfect Hair Stimulating Scalp Conditioner, and later I ordered the Edge Repair Follicle Treatment Intensive Night Drops.  No matter how tired I was I made it my business to wash and condition my hair weekly with these products.  In my order, they sent me a sample of the drops.  This was like liquid gold and I quickly ordered a bottle.  They can be a little pricey ($49.95) but a little goes a long way so they last about a month or longer.  Within about two to three weeks I was seeing major results.  My edges were growing back and were thicker than before.  I didn't care that the shampoo wasn't sulfate free.  Hell I didn't care about any of the ingredients that either product contained.  I just wanted my edges back!

So now that I was back in the game, I stayed on Instagram looking at different hair brands and doing extensive research on products.  I was way more aware of what I was putting in my hair and I wasn't forcing a product to work for me.  If it didn't work or I didn't like it then I passed it on to someone who was experimenting like I was.  So the next brand that I ran across was Inahsi Naturals.  I ordered the Aloe Hibiscus Leave-In Conditioner & DetanglerIsland Breeze Moisturizing Hair Whip, and Coconut Avocado Curl Defining Custard.  When the hair whip arrived it had kind of melted since it was in the middle of the summer.  I stirred it really well and it seemed to be fine.  Since then, I saw on their website that they only offer the hair whip during the winter months because of it melting in the summer.  The leave-in conditioner softened and moisturized my hair, which made it easier to comb.  I learned that it was important to have a good leave-in conditioner and plenty of patience when combing my hair.  It causes for way less breakage.  I would then apply the hair whip and the custard.  The first time I used them I used way too much and my hair was weighed down, greasy, and crunchy.  So after washing my hair, I tried again.  This time I used a small amount of those two products and twisted my hair.  The next day my twist out was super moisturized and my hair was soft.  I discontinued using these products only because I found something else to replace them; however, they have several new products out that I've read nothing but good reviews about.  I'm sure I will be trying those out soon.  They are the Soothing Mint Moisturizing ConditionerMango Hemp Restorative Deep ConditionerSoothing Mint Sulfate Free Clarifying Shampoo, and Soothing Mint Sulfate Free Gentle Cleansing Shampoo.

My husband is calling me lame for typing so much tonight and told me I needed to bring my blogging ass too bed.  I can't with him.
